How and why did the biker scene become so complicated? What happened to just riding and partying to when the sun came up?

I had a subscriber ask me once, “why do you always talk about what young people missed when you were coming up?” Maybe it comes with pushing 50 years old, but looking back, those were truly the days to be a biker. Things back then were so much simpler, none of this social media and especially no politically correct crap. I often think about some of the things we did back in the 90’s and chuckle. I know damn well some of these newer kids would’ve been shell shocked, on some of the things that went on. I often have to remind myself that I’m in a different time period, when doing motorcycle madhouse morning biker news. Situations were handled a lot different than they are now. It’s actually a bonafide culture shock for me. Personally, with the commercialization of the scene, it’s gotten away from the purity it once was.

I’ve talked to many bikers my age and older. Most of the time it's always the same type of conversation, “these new kids are missing out.” It’s always nice looking back at the experiences I was able to get. The people I’ve met and the parties I’ve been to last a lifetime, something I can go to when doing the news. Sometimes it’s funny though, people are actually shocked at some of the stuff I say. Maybe this is why many people compare me to a shock jock. It’s funny though, I don’t look at myself as that. I look at it as being real and up front, something many people nowadays are not. Maybe this could be looked at as a complication of what the scene has become. People are just not real as they once were. Personally, I thought it was the best quality a biker could have.
The number one thing I really find disturbing about social media, is all the attention, paid to motorcycle clubs. Sure, they were always talked about, but not like they are today. Maybe it’s because the conversation is just amplified, because of social media. Here’s the thing though. I don’t ever remember it being the topic of conversation, all the time. The biggest topic of conversation back then had to do with the next ride or where to party.

The conversation isn’t setting the right tone

I would have to say this goes out to the new jacks. Don’t let the conversation be dictated on how to join a club. Let your conversation be dictated about where you’re going to ride next or where the next party is. Let the conversation be about banging that nice piece of tail at the rally or going to a strip club with a handful of dollars. That’s the scene, doing what you want to do and maintaining your independence. It sure the hell isn’t sitting there with your pecker in hand, jerking off, about getting information on joining a club.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Join ABATE or a riding club if you want to be apart of something. Motorcycle Clubs right now are not the same as they once were. I would go further to say that motorcycle clubs have lost their way. I’m not against them, but I’m sure not going to promote them, especially when most people don’t understand them. The people you meet at ABATE or in a riding club will be people with your same interest without all the hassle of politics.

I was once asked if I regretted joining a club

The short answer is yes, I do regret some of that life. The biggest thing I regret was giving most of my time to the club. I lost a lot of time on other stuff I could’ve pursued, not to mention the money that could’ve been made. Looking back I should have taken my own advice and joined a riding club. The perfect riding club for me would be just about the riding and partying. I wouldn’t want anything to do with the politics of motorcycle clubs, nor would I want to commit my time to it, every minute of the day. That’s what the premise of a riding club in my eyes should be anyways. I do know some that actually try to mimic a motorcycle club, but that just isn’t me. Yeah, I’ve changed over time, especially in some of my views. I’m guilty as charged! When I was younger the club scene was the ultimate rush. I believe this is why I try to give alternatives to a club, choice if you will. The older you get the wiser you get I suppose.

Let all the noise bounce off you

For all those out there that want to experience the scene in its true form, pay no attention to social media. Basically, let all the chatter go in one ear and out the other. The subject that’s debated all the time on social media is “what’s a biker?” Well here is a simple answer for you. Two wheels and the heart to stand for what you believe in, nothing more and nothing less. Fuck all those people who say this and that makes you a real biker. All you need to know if you’re for real is what’s in your heart. I personally could care less if you travel around in an RV or trailer your bike to the next destination. Here’s a question. Do those people questioning your integrity and dedication to the scene pay your bills? If not, who gives a flying fuck what they think. Why? Because you sleep in an RV or trailer your bike. Get the fuck out of here with that shit. You want to know why they say all that shit about RV’s? It’s because they are jealous they don’t have one. I don’t know how many times I heard club guys bitching about having to sleep in tents at rallies. Yeah, club guys wanted those RV’s as well. So don’t let an idiot get under your skin with that crap.

How do I like going to rallies or riding long distances? Well, I pack a two man tent and tarp. I also pack some camping supplies and pull over and set up where I want to. This is my choice of how I like doing things. The choices I make have no bearing on the way you want to do things. To each his/her own to do what they want on their own terms. That’s one of the best things about the lifestyle, doing whatever you fucking feel like doing. This is a mentality which has escaped us in recent years. Instead, people are always worrying about what others think of them. I get email after email from haters on a daily basis, mainly because of the business I’m in. When some of these maggots write their bullshit I laugh. What the hell do I care what they think? The death threats don’t mean shit to me, the bullshit “fuck you, you don’t know what you’re talking about,” don’t mean shit to me. Sure, doing what I do you need a thick skin, but the mentality also has a lot to do with who I am. I just don’t give a fuck what people think of me. This is the mentality that doesn't only make you a biker, but it makes you a man.

What happened to just riding and partying to when the sun came up?

Well there is a simple answer to this question. The reason is the scene and many of those in it, have become a bunch of freaking gossiping school girls. My god, when I see some of the comments I have to deal with, it truly is culture shock to me. Some of these comments are downright fucked up the way people think. Here’s a homework assignment for you. Go through our YouTube channel comments or Facebook Comments. You will then see what the hell I’m talking about when it comes to some of these people's thinking. My god, sometimes I feel like I need to jam a pacifier in these people’s mouths. It’s especially funny when I talk about some of the things that used to go on during parties. Some of these people actually flip the hell out like it was the second coming. Those are the people who would’ve got eaten up in the 90’s. What I came up thinking is normal isn’t what it is today, let me tell you.

Conclusion

People need to get back to the basics, they need to see the scene as it was meant to be. The scene wasn’t for the politically correct, it was for those who wanted to do life on their own terms. We didn’t care about what others thought about us, we did what we wanted to and partied the way we wanted. The biggest mistake anyone can make, biker or not, is to care about what others think about you. So what’s your thoughts, where did it all go wrong? Does the Biker Code really exist in reality or just on social media?

I got a question from Mark from Seattle, Washington. Mark Asks What do you think of the Biker Code. Especially some of the sayings that appear in memes on the internet? My last question. What are your thoughts on people wearing regular shoes on motorcycles? Don't you think thats ridiculous?

So everyone has heard about a supposed biker code. Well, at least those who do nothing but take their information from the internet anyways. I was actually sent a video where someone was talking about the biker code. Actually, they compared the code to some code of chivalry.

Well being as outspoken as I am (laugh) I had to take on the subject. Especially when I get questions about this supposed code all the time. Most of the time I shake my head with the questions I get and don't take them all to much serious.
Why do you do that you're asking right? Well, maybe I'm going through my own midlife crisis. I tend to always hearken back decades ago before the internet. Talk about how things used to be compared to now. I think that might be one of my faults. Always thinking about the past instead of how things are shaped now. Or maybe, just maybe, I look at many things different than most people.

 I'm a guy who believes 100% in common sense. Sure, some things you might have to learn on the streets. But come on! Now there is the almighty biker code? We are supposed to be some medieval knights or something? Yeah, not into all the memes I guess.When I heard some of the stuff, this biker code was supposed to be about I sat back and thought to myself "Really?"Not to piss off any of my lady viewers or anything. But I remember when I wanted to go get a blowjob from a hen on a night of party that's what I did. I was never one to ask permission from any ole lady when I wanted to blow a nut. I sure the hell didn't take any orders from an ole lady. I didn't sit there and beg for permission to do anything from a woman. Now all of a sudden in modern times I guess that's not respecting a woman?

I can honestly say I love women to death. Come on, I had a pretty damn good adult party business going on back in the day. Always respected the women who worked for me. Shit, they were driving around in BMWs, Mercedes and living the good life. Well taken care of.

Oh shit! Maybe I shouldn't have said that because I'm going against this so called biker code. I'm a male pig for supporting a woman's choice to make a living. Man! Get the hell outta of here with that crap.

One thing that has always went hand and hand in this lifestyle was partying hard and woman. Now in modern times you have pole smokers crying and whining about biker sites putting up pictures of tits and ass. "Oh, I have my special lady. I don't need to look at this." Personally, I think you're the ones who use to call up requesting we send over some tail to you.
It's always these self righteous ones who are the easiest to call out. They are so unbelievably easy to spot in a crowd. Fake ass hell. Just look how they carry themselves, and you will know what I'm talking about. These are the same people who are on the internet talking about a bikers code. Dudes who let their ole ladies pull them around by the dick.

Let's get back to this supposed biker code, though. Everything you see about this on the internet. Again, through these memes are common-sense people!!! You see someone on the side of the road pull your ass over and help them. If you can't then at least stay with them until someone else arrives. Who knows, you might strike up a long lasting friendship.
 
Yes, you don't RAT!!!!!!!! If you have to even think about ratting, your ass shouldn't have gotten involved in what you were doing. This is one of the biggest things that burns the ass!! Why in the hell did you get involved knowing the options of what the outcome could've been? You knew damn well the consequences so man the hell up and don't rat!
Listen. Words of advice. If you know you could do time for what you're involved in and can't accept the time.Simply don't do it! Again, common sense! You don't need a meme to tell you that!!!

So the question was do I believe in the bike code? Here's what I believe in. I believe life is a bitch and you have to be guarded with everything you do. I believe people have to earn your trust through years of trials and tribulations. I don't believe in calling anyone bro. Especially if they are someone over the internet and never met them. I believe people will screw you the first chance they get. It's always been human nature to care for oneself over some other. Its something that's been that way since the onset of humanity and will never change.

This biker code on all these memes insinuates that anyone riding a bike must adhere to these saying or they are not bikers. I call bullshit and say the opposite. If someone has to adhere to some code and not think for themselves then I would never consider you a biker. Bikers are the ones who are suppose to see through bullshit. Bikers are ones who make the rules and live the way they see fit. If you have to live by what someone else tells you forget biker. What kind of man are you really?

It might sound like I'm bashing the idea of a biker code. I'm not. I believe there is a set of principles everyone should live by. But to take what someone says off a meme and considers it gospel on what a biker is supposed to follow is utterly ridiculous. Come on, there has to be some type of common sense left.

Why do some people use this supposed biker code to reinforce themselves?? Because the ones using it are probably the ones who are the 50-year-old mid-life crisis pole smoker who need to be propped up and feel like they are finally something in life.

Here's my suggestion. Be a man. Have your word and do what's right. You don't need any reinforcement from any meme that your a true biker. Be you, don't be something your not. If your not a tough guy then don't act like one. Not all bikers are tough. Everyone has their own skill set and personality. Don't try fitting into some mold because true bikers make their own molds or a meme on Facebook tells you this is the way it should be.

I hope that answers your question on the Biker Code Memes Mark. Now onto your other question. Do I think those who wear shoes instead of boots are a biker?

Short answer? I wear either converse or my nikes everywhere I go. I can care less if people say "Look at the guy wearing the white tennis shoes on his motorcycle!" My first response is fuck you! Listen, I've worn converse or nikes my entire life. Shit, some people write in all the time asking why I wear my hats or bandanas like a gang banger. Again Short answer? Ive was a banger all my life!! Ever since I was 12 years old. I'm I active now? No! I'm I ashamed of what I was or where I've been? Hell no! Do I still communicate with people in the neighborhood? Uh, Yeah! That will never change about me. The neighborhood is who I am. That includes the styles I wear.

I always find it funny when you see people wearing stuff we wear. Especially the flannels. That prick Ryan Urlacher. Whose a cop by the way!! Takes pictures of himself in flannels with hats backwards all the time. Something we've been doing in the neighborhood since the early 50s.

So does the way I dress preclude me from being a biker? Uh, No! Do I catch hell from the grey beards for wearing my converse or Nikes? All the time. But if I gave a shit what people thought about me I would be giving up who I am as a person. I would be turning my back on those in my neighborhood and what we were all about. Not to mention going against what bikers are suppose to be about. Bikers are not supposed to give a shit what anyone thinks of them. Remember that. I know its a new concept for most of you new jacks and middle age bikers. So I hope this answers that question for yeah Mark.

So whats bottom line?

If you want to be some damn knight or practice chivalry then go read a book and choose another lifestyle. Because one thing we are not, is a knight in shining armor. If you have to tie yourself to what others think of you than you're living a sorry existence. Especially if its someone telling you to act a certain way. Again, I always thought bikers were supposed to be on the fringe of society? Guess not in the modern era.

How did you get started in Radio? How did you adjust being in public eye?

I frequently get asked how I got involved in Radio/Podcasting/Video Blogging. Another question I frequently get is how did I adjust with all the public attention and scrutiny that comes with being in the public eye? It's quite funny actually. I launched a small blog back in 2011. Never ever thought of taking it all that serious. I definitely never thought it would take off as it has worldwide. I've always had a creative streak. After all, my main vocation was tattooing and piercing. I've owed tattoo studios for the better half of 20 years. I actually published my first blog from one of my tattoo studios called Aberration Pro Custom Tattoo. Whenever it was slow I would just hop on the computer and post my thoughts on what was out there. Biker News became a passion. After all, I loved being a biker and experienced many of the things within the biker community. The first rule if you're ever going to get involved in podcasting or video blogging make sure its a subject you're passionate about. Don't try and make it a generalization of a mix of diverse topics. Stick to one Niche. Establish your following and when you accomplish your goal of where you want to be than go to other subjects. 

 It has taken me close to eight years to get to that point. This blog for example I'm able to address a range of diverse subjects. It took that long because I had to build an audience with Insane Throttle Biker News and then Motorcycle Madhouse. Once that finally happened I was able to write for fun. Put my crazy ass thoughts out there and if they were read great! If not, oh well lmao. For those who are determined and want to make a run at being a host of a show or blogging. Make sure to put all your time and effort into one niche. It's going to take years to be able to get where you want to be. This is a business that takes time, patience and drive to make it. Don't go on YouTube and listen to hacks talking about how you can make so much money right away. Don't listen to the hacks telling you that you can get so many people within a certain amount of time either. It's all bullshit!

 So lets talk about podcasting for a second. Podcasting is the new radio. Gone are the days of air-wave radio. Everyone is flocking to IHeart Radio and Spotify for all their entertainment. Not to mention YouTube and Pandora. This is why you see many radio stations on the FM and AM frequency going under all the time. They cannot compete against the new age of entertainment. People like selecting personalized content now. This is one of the reasons you want to pick a niche and stay within it. Spotify alone has a reach of over 300,000,000 people worldwide. IHeart radio the same. AM/FM radio cannot even come close to those numbers. Its a dying industry. If you want to get in on the ground floor than podcasting/video blogging is the way to go. But again, its going to take many tedious hours and a lot of work to get somewhere with it. You have to occupy a good niche and more important you're going to need some luck.

 Many people out there have these BS so-called seminars they give claiming they have the right formula on how to make it big. Yeah, No! Don't buy into it. It's in fact more like click bait. They are making money off the so-called program you buy. They are not generating the money on actual podcasting or video blogging. Kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? If they are not generating the money on what their subject is about and have to rely on sales of a "Program." What good is the information they are peddling to you? I never sought out any of these seminars. When I initially saw Insane Throttle taking off, I made a business plan up. First focusing on the biker news site. I focused on building its page visitors and page views. I also focused on getting other websites to pick up its RSS feed and getting ping-backs. That took years to accomplish. I wouldn't even move into the social media arena until I accomplished that. Staying focused on a goal is critically important. By placing all my focus into growing the news site I currently enjoy an enormous amount of page visits and views. Making it the number one biker news site on the net. Let's put it this way. My nearest competitors monthly visits and views I double in just one day over at the Throttle. This is because I remained focused on a goal and didn't try to rush it or buy into pipe dreams.

If you want to be successful, you're going to have to do the same. Remain focused and stay away from the pipe dreams. Its a fantastic thing technology has given to us. Never before was there a time when someone could go out and buy a mic and make a living at it. Before the podcast you had to go to a four-year college and know someone at a radio station. Not anymore. Anyone can do it. The catch is only a few will ever make it big. Once more, it absolutely depends on the amount of work put into it and what niche you're in. But here's the good news. The double whammy of doing your podcast and video blogging at the same time on platforms like YouTube gives you the opportunity to explode. When I first started Motorcycle Madhouse it was only on podcasting platforms. Now I perform the show on YouTube and other multi streaming platforms. I reach more and more audiences than ever before. Done right so can you.  

Many people frequently ask how I was able to adjust after the show took off. Its funny actually. I had a hard time with it. Why? Because I never had the expectations it would blow up worldwide like it did. It took getting use to. Especially all the emails and letters. Today, my email box on average receives about 1,000 messages. Everything from "I love the show" to "I hate your guts."Yeah, if you're going to get into this business you better damn well have a very thick skin. People will say all sorts of messed up stuff and even go as far as trying to spread false rumors about you. It took me time dealing with that. Especially when it comes in on a daily basis. Motorcycle Madhouse is on the edge. Many often compare me to the Howard Stern of Biker Radio. People have been doing that since the beginning of the show. Remind you now. We are currently on our 13th season. So yeah, fun times with the haters.

Motorcycle Madhouse is unique. I deal with the Biker Lifestyle. Everything from Motorcycle Clubs to Biker Rights. Its subjects a lot of people in the biker radio industry won't touch. I'm only one of the maybe handful that will. Being in this niche you always have to keep informing people the show is for entertainment. You would not guess how many people don't comprehend that. Sure, I express opinions as do the guest I have on the show. But they are solely opinions and entertainment based. Its fun having to answer emails that come in to say the least. The Biker Lifestyle is not use to Howard Stern type of tactics, and people have to be reminded all the time not to take things seriously. But that's the niche I decided to get into and love doing it every day. Despite all the haters and threats. The one reason why the Madhouse stands out like it does is because its on the edge and goes where most other biker radio shows will not. This is what you will need to distinguish yourself in a Niche. Trust me on that. 

  That's some of the advice I can give people looking to get into podcasting/videoblogging. Now to the other question I receive frequently. How did I adjust when things started taking off? One of the weirdest things that happens when you grow and become popular is people stopping you and asking for an autograph. Or when they stop you and ask to take a picture with you. I'm just a ordinary guy. It really doesn't go to my head. I enjoy meeting all the various people around the country. When I do events, it's a blast to say the least. It makes putting in all the long hours and aggravation worth it. It drives me to double my efforts to make the show even better. The lesson, nevertheless, is if you do make it big. Don't let the shit go to your head. Hopefully, you will be the same person you were when you first started your show. That's just my two cents. Those wanting to come into the industry I wish you good luck. You're going to need it.
